A safe, permanent home isn't something a child should only dream about...
Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are everyday people who are appointed by judges to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children. A CASA volunteer stays with the child's case until he or she is placed into a safe, permanent and nurturing home.
For all of the right reasons, CASA volunteer advocates are commonly known "as the eyes and ears of family court". When abused or neglected children are removed from the home often they become trapped between the court and child welfare systems. This is where our specially trained advocates, empowered to serve the best interests of the child, come in.
Our advocates fill in the inevitable information gaps. They investigate what's going on with the case, understanding and reporting on how the child is doing medically, educationally, psychologically and socially.
In Mercer County, there are currently 575 children in out-of-home placements; we have nearly 100 advocates helping to serve roughly 30% of those children...and an urgent need to serve a higher percentage of them.
CASA, with your help, works to make real those tender dreams of a safe and permanent home.
