CASA OF MERCER COUNTY

RECIPIENT OF THE 2010

CHERISH THE CHILD AWARD

The mission of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Mercer County is to speak up in court for the best interests of the 450 children in Mercer County who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect. They are living in foster homes, group homes or treatment facilities.  CASA works through trained community volunteers to insure that needed services and assistance are made available while helping to move the child toward a safe and permanent home.  CASA strives to improve the lives of those we serve by minimizing the child's time in the child welfare system and maximizing the probability of a permanent home.

CASA recruits, screens, and trains volunteer advocates to speak up for the best interests of these children in Family Court.  Currently there are over 450  children in Mercer County in out-of-home placements and our 125 advocates serve 25% of them.  Our goal is to eventually serve all of the children in need of a CASA volunteer

Upcoming Event

Stanley Jordan at Salt Creek Grille Princeton, June 13

There are events and then there are Events. Our Afternoon of Jazz with Stanley Jordan was an Event. To quote from the wonderful 2-page spread in US 1 newspaper (June 25th)..."once in a while an event stands out not for its glamor or the fact that gobs of people are coming but rather for the purity and simplicity of its concept.....Watching Jordan play the guitar is a privilege, like watching the eighth wonder of the world."

This amazing afternoon of music netted about $10,000 for CASA.  About 120 people attended and a number of supporters donated to the event, although they could not attend. The afternoon would not have been possible without the generosity of artist sponsor Glenmede Trust of Princeton and  Salt Creek Grille Princeton, which donated the venue, food and beverage. It was a day to savor and remember, and one that gives a boost to the kids we serve.
