The CASA Kids 5K...Version 2010!
Almost any weekend from early spring to early summer you can count on a half dozen 10Ks, 5Ks or Walks being held within a 20-mile radius of one's town. This year The third Annual CASA Kids 5K and Family Fun Run will doubtlessly compete with other such events. But ours is already known as one of the best-run events in the state, with a flat, fast course, great facilities and most of all, a great cause that drives everything.
This year, The CASA Kids 5K will be held on Saturday, May 15, at the The Princeton Pike Corporate Center in Lawrenceville. The one-mile Fun Run will start at 8:30 AM, and the USATF-sanctioned 5K will kick off at 9 AM sharp. Jerry Fennelly, race director in 2008 and 2009, is taking the year off from ours and other races to perform 50 good deeds in commemoration of his 50th birthday.
Continuing that theme for this year's race is Race director Bob Tona, founder and leader of the Run for the Vikings 5K in his hometown of South Brunswick. In 2009 Bob ran 50 (actually 53) road races -- from 5Ks to marathons -- to raise money and awareness for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and to promote the value of fitness to friends and family.
The 2010 race again has the support of an array of sponsors, including First Choice Bank, Mathematica, NassTech Mechanical, Novo Nordisk, and NRG, last year's lead sponsor and whose CEO, David Crane served with wife Isabella as honorary co-chair. We expect a healthy contingent of teams who will vie for prizes and trophies in the categories of most money raised and fastest teams.
Runners may register to run and/or fundraise by going to our website homepage. Both are administered under Active.com. Running nquestions, please contact Bob Tona at 732.718.6051. For fundraising and sponsorships, contact CASA developmenrt director Randall Kirkpatrick at 609.434.0050 or 5K event co-chair Kathy Kinka at 609.883.2371. If you're interested in forming a team, please contact co-chair Chris Calandra at 609.720.4726.
